ICICI Securities, Oppenheimer & Co., Inc and NASDAQ host `Private Growth Companies Conference'
Conference to provide a platform for fund raising opportunities for private companies
ICICI Securities, Oppenheimer & Co., Inc and NASDAQ jointly co-hosted `The Private Growth Companies Conference' today at Four Seasons Mumbai. The conference was aimed at providing a common platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges for private companies in India.
Mr Anup Bagchi MD & CEO, ICICI Securities Ltd said, "One of the most important requirements in the growth journey of private companies is Capital. Indian companies today have the option for domestic as well as international listing opportunities, besides a large pool of private equity capital. ICICI Securities has created this platform for regulators, international stock exchanges, private companies, public and private investors to present the right perspective on the opportunities and challenges for Indian private companies. We trust this proves to be a useful platform, and continues to facilitate meaningful dialogue into the future."
Various fund raising opportunities such as listing outside of India, domestic listing as well as private equity investments to suit the growth stage and sector of the corporates seeking equity capital were discussed.
"To go public is perhaps one of the significant milestone events in the evolution of a company. This requires months of preparation financially, procedurally and psychologically. It has been our privilege to partner with companies in their process of going public and today, some of which are the largest and most respected corporates in India," added Mr Bagchi.
"We see a huge opportunity for private companies, especially in the mid cap sector, to access capital markets in the US. The institutional investors in the US are keen on Indian growth stories, and there exists a pent-up demand for investing in this segment, similar to what we saw from China some years ago," commented Mr Andrew Macinnes, Head of Equity Capital Market, Oppenheimer & Co., Inc
Rebecca Smith, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, NASDAQ OMX Group said, "NASDAQ is dedicated to providing Indian companies with access to the world's deepest liquidity pool with unparalleled global branding opportunities. As the world's foremost Exchange for innovative companies, we are tremendously excited about the leadership and high-innovation coming out of India and will continue to support our pre-IPO and existing Indian clients. We see a huge opportunity for Indian companies in terms of gaining a warm reception from US investors, translating to valuation. We are proud of the track record and strong performance of our listed companies from India, such as Infosys (N100, NGS: INFY), Cognizant (NGS: CTSH), EXLService (NGS: EXLS) and MakeMyTrip.com (NGS: MMYT). We look forward to being on hand in India in the coming future."
India is at an important tipping point in its economic growth and private consumption is one of the most important factors driving this growth with over 60% of the GDP consumed domestically. Thus the broad theme of the conference was this Indian consumption story. Companies from sectors such as e-commerce, retail, hospitality, consumer goods and healthcare participated in the conference.
Over 30 companies and 50 investors across asset classes participated in the conference. Interaction was fostered through panel discussions on sector specific themes such as travel and hospitality, education.
